2022 comes to a close and I watched just over 200 releases this year. I hope you enjoy this wild list from my very favourite to least favourite film of the year. I decided not to include any TV this time that feels cinematic so some TV I liked very much included The Andy Warhol Diaries, Barry (Season 3), Black Bird, The Boys (Season 3), Dahmer, George & Tammy, Irma Vep, The Last Movie Stars, The Offer, Peacemaker, Severance, Slow Horses, Tulsa King, Wednesday and Yellowjackets which was probably my favourite this year. I have a lot of TV I haven’t got around to yet so I will be spending the next few months catching up on that.
Some films I couldn’t stomach to sit through Avatar: The Way of Water, Fall (I don’t like heights), The Innocents (the depiction of autism was too “problematic” for me), Jurassic World Dominion, Living (I love Ikiru too much), Roald Dahl’s Matilda The Musical (Ben Shapiro’s cousin can’t be replaced), Spirited (I tried), The Woman King and You Won’t Be Alone which I saw some of the film during Sundance and the digital cinematography was so oft-putting.
I haven’t seen All The Beauty And The Bloodshed, Babylon, Devotion, Empire of Light, Holy Spider, The Inspection, The Pale Blue Eye, Please Baby Please, The Son, Till and Woman Talking so those will now be counted as 2023 releases.
